What is a mission?

A mission is an aspirational description of what an organization would like to achieve or accomplish in the mid-term or long-term future. It is intended to serve as a clear guide for choosing current and future courses of action.

Companies who have a clear mission understand what it’s trying to achieve. When a mission is joined by a vision, it now understands why it exists.

While there is no easy path to establishing your company’s mission, it is recommended you acquire as much input as possible. The process will be iterative and incremental until you arrive at the statement. More importantly, it is recommended you document “why” you arrive at the aforementioned mission statement and establish the date it was accepted.
